Manyara packs several habitats into a narrow strip between the Rift escarpment and a soda lake: dense groundwater forest at the entrance, then open floodplain and hot springs at the southern end. It is a natural half-day on the way to Ngorongoro.
Its lions have a well-documented habit of resting in acacia trees — not guaranteed, but a genuine possibility here.

- Airstrip served by light aircraft on the northern circuit.
Where to base yourself
- Escarpment lodges above the lake for the views

Planning notes from our team
- Treat it as a half-day stop rather than a destination in its own right unless you are birding.
Common questions
Will I see the tree-climbing lions?
Sometimes. It is a local behaviour, not a daily performance. Go for the forest, the birds and the scenery, and treat the lions as a bonus.
