Balance paid closer to travel

East Africa's safari areas are well run and our guests travel with experienced guides throughout. Most health risks are avoided with a visit to a travel clinic six to eight weeks before departure and a few simple habits on the ground.

This page is general guidance, not medical advice. Always follow your own doctor or travel clinic, and check your government's current travel advice before you book.

01

Before you travel

Book a travel-clinic appointment six to eight weeks ahead and take your itinerary with you.

  • Malaria: most safari areas below about 1,800m carry risk — ask your clinic about antimalarial tablets
  • Yellow fever: a certificate may be required depending on your route and where you are arriving from
  • Routine vaccines up to date; your clinic may also suggest hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus
  • Travel insurance that covers medical evacuation, including from remote airstrips
  • Enough prescription medication for the whole trip plus spare, in original packaging

02

On safari

Small habits make the biggest difference.

  • Drink bottled or filtered water — camps provide it; refill your own bottle
  • Use repellent and long sleeves from dusk, and sleep under the nets provided
  • High-factor sun cream, a hat and sunglasses — the equatorial sun is strong even when it feels cool
  • Wash or sanitise hands before meals
  • Tell your guide about any allergy, dietary need or health condition on day one

03

Wildlife etiquette

Animals are wild. Your guide's instructions always come first.

  • Stay inside the vehicle unless your guide says it is safe to get out
  • Keep voices low and never stand up through the roof near predators or elephants
  • Never feed animals, and never walk around camp at night without an escort
  • Gorilla and chimp treks: stay 7m away, and do not trek if you have a cold or flu

04

Personal security

Safari lodges and camps are secure. In cities, use the transfers we arrange, keep valuables in the room safe and carry copies of your passport rather than the original when out walking.

Questions about safari health and safety

Is it safe to go on safari in Kenya and Tanzania?

Yes — millions of visitors travel safely every year. Our guides, vehicles and camps are vetted, and we track every guest's movements throughout the trip.

Do I need malaria tablets?

Most safari areas carry some malaria risk. Ask a travel clinic, who will recommend tablets based on your route and health.

What happens in a medical emergency?

Guides carry first-aid kits and radios, and we coordinate evacuation to hospital in Nairobi or Arusha. This is why evacuation cover in your insurance matters.

Is the itinerary really free?

Yes. You receive a costed, day-by-day itinerary with no payment and no obligation. You only pay once you decide to secure the trip.

What does the quoted price include?

Accommodation, meals as listed, your private guide and vehicle, park and conservancy fees and the transfers or flights shown. Every inclusion and exclusion is listed line by line on your proforma.

How do I secure my safari?

A 50% deposit holds your camps and flights. The balance is due closer to departure, and we send reminders well ahead of the due date.

Can I change the itinerary?

Anything can change before you book: camps, number of nights, the order of parks, adding a beach finish or switching between luxury and ultra-luxury.

Is it a group tour?

No. Every journey is private — your own guide and vehicle, leaving when you are ready and stopping when you want.

Every Perch Africa journey is built from scratch.

Tell us your dates, your travelling party and your budget and we will come back with a costed itinerary, real camp availability and a clear price — no templates.

Not every safari company. The safari company.

Planned around you. Priced in the open. Built to end on a high.

Anyone can send you a brochure. We build your journey with named stays, verified availability and every cost shown before you commit — then save the finest sighting for your final golden hour.

Built around you, never pulled from a template

Your dates, pace, interests and budget shape the route. We order every stop logically and keep the strongest experience for the finish.

  2. 02

    A private guide and vehicle

Your safari is not a shared departure. Leave when you are ready, stay longer at a sighting and adjust each day with your guide.

  3. 03

Named stays and a costed day-by-day plan

You see the proposed camps, transfers, flights, park fees, inclusions and exclusions before you decide—not just a headline price.

  4. 04

Availability checked before we call it confirmed

Suggested stays remain suggestions until checked. We verify the space for your dates before issuing the booking offer.

  5. 05

Refine the trip before you commit

Change the route, number of nights, camp level or transport until the journey fits. Nothing is booked until you approve it.

  6. 06

One clear path from idea to departure

The itinerary, quote and booking details stay aligned. A 50% deposit secures the approved trip, with the balance paid closer to travel.
