The Kigali Genocide Memorial
Located in Gisozi, the memorial is a sobering, carefully presented account of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. It is widely considered essential for understanding the resilient country Rwanda has rebuilt since those dark days.
Visits typically take two to three hours and are best done with ample time afterwards to reflect quietly before moving on to other city activities.

Kigali's growing dining scene, much of it centred on the leafy Kiyovu and Kimihurura suburbs, makes for an easy, relaxed afternoon between your morning sightseeing and evening rest.

Heading Onward to the Parks
Volcanoes National Park is roughly two and a half hours north by road, while Akagera is a similar distance east, making Kigali a natural logistical hub for any itinerary.
The roads are generally in excellent condition, though the winding mountain routes towards the north require a steady, professional driver.
