Zanzibar is the natural second half of a Tanzanian safari, and increasingly of a Kenyan one. Scheduled flights link the northern circuit airstrips directly to the island, so guests step off a game drive and into the sea on the same day.
The island is not one beach but several coastlines with different characters: reef-protected and calm in the north-east, tide-driven in the south-east, sheltered and swimmable at the northern tip, and historic in Stone Town.

One or two nights is enough, and worth it: a UNESCO old town of Omani doors, Swahili courtyards and a food market that comes alive after dark. We pair it with a spice farm morning or a Prison Island snorkel.
