No guide can promise a leopard. What we can do is put you in the places where the density is highest, at the season when the grass is short, with a guide who knows the individual animals in that valley.

Use this to set expectations before you choose parks — then let the itinerary follow the species you most want to spend time with.

01

The Big Five

Lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino, with the realistic strongholds for each.

  • Lion — Maasai Mara, Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater; near-certain in a three-night stay
  • Elephant — Amboseli, Tarangire, Tsavo; large herds and old bulls
  • Buffalo — almost everywhere, in great numbers on the crater floor
  • Leopard — Mara conservancies, Seronera valley, Samburu; patient guides matter more than the park
  • Rhino — Ol Pejeta, Lewa, Solio and Ngorongoro; the hardest of the five

02

Primates

Mountain gorillas live only in Bwindi, Mgahinga, Volcanoes and Virunga. Chimpanzees are best tracked in Kibale and Nyungwe. Both are permit-controlled, small-group and time-limited experiences — an hour with the family once you find them.

03

Northern specials

Samburu and the northern conservancies hold species found nowhere further south: Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, beisa oryx, gerenuk and Somali ostrich. Worth three nights on any second Kenyan safari.

04

Birds

Over 1,000 species across the region. November to April brings the Palearctic migrants, and the Rift Valley lakes hold flamingo, pelican and fish eagle year-round. Tell us you are a birder and we change the guide, not just the route.

Questions about wildlife guide

Is the itinerary really free?

Yes. You receive a costed, day-by-day itinerary with no payment and no obligation. You only pay once you decide to secure the trip.

What does the quoted price include?

Accommodation, meals as listed, your private guide and vehicle, park and conservancy fees and the transfers or flights shown. Every inclusion and exclusion is listed line by line on your proforma.

How do I secure my safari?

A 50% deposit holds your camps and flights. The balance is due closer to departure, and we send reminders well ahead of the due date.

Can I change the itinerary?

Anything can change before you book: camps, number of nights, the order of parks, adding a beach finish or switching between luxury and ultra-luxury.

Is it a group tour?

No. Every journey is private — your own guide and vehicle, leaving when you are ready and stopping when you want.

Every Perch Africa journey is built from scratch.

Tell us your dates, your travelling party and your budget and we will come back with a costed itinerary, real camp availability and a clear price — no templates.
