Light aircraft between parks allow roughly 15kg per person in a soft-sided bag with no rigid frame. This is strictly enforced at the airstrip, so pack for it from home rather than repacking in a Nairobi car park.

Every camp does same-day laundry, usually free. Four days of clothing is enough for a fortnight.

01

Clothing

Dawn game drives are genuinely cold; midday is hot. Layers solve both.

  • Neutral greens, browns and khaki — avoid dark blue and black, which attract tsetse flies
  • A warm fleece and a windproof layer for open vehicles
  • Long sleeves and trousers for evenings and mosquitoes
  • Closed walking shoes, plus sandals for camp
  • Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and a swimsuit

02

Gorilla and chimpanzee trekking

Add these if Bwindi, Volcanoes or Kibale are on your route.

  • Waterproof jacket and quick-dry trousers
  • Ankle-height boots with grip, worn in before you travel
  • Gardening gloves for grabbing nettles and vines
  • Gaiters or long socks tucked into trousers

03

Kit that matters

Binoculars — one pair each, not one shared. Camera with the longest lens you own plus spare batteries; charging in camp is usually solar and slower than at home. A head torch, a refillable water bottle and a dust-proof bag for electronics.

04

Health and documents

Prescription medication in original packaging with a copy of the prescription, antimalarials where advised, strong sun protection, insect repellent, and rehydration salts. Carry your passport, yellow-fever certificate where required, insurance details and e-visa printouts separately from your luggage.

Questions about safari packing guide

Is the itinerary really free?

Yes. You receive a costed, day-by-day itinerary with no payment and no obligation. You only pay once you decide to secure the trip.

What does the quoted price include?

Accommodation, meals as listed, your private guide and vehicle, park and conservancy fees and the transfers or flights shown. Every inclusion and exclusion is listed line by line on your proforma.

How do I secure my safari?

A 50% deposit holds your camps and flights. The balance is due closer to departure, and we send reminders well ahead of the due date.

Can I change the itinerary?

Anything can change before you book: camps, number of nights, the order of parks, adding a beach finish or switching between luxury and ultra-luxury.

Is it a group tour?

No. Every journey is private — your own guide and vehicle, leaving when you are ready and stopping when you want.

Every Perch Africa journey is built from scratch.

Tell us your dates, your travelling party and your budget and we will come back with a costed itinerary, real camp availability and a clear price — no templates.

You see the proposed camps, transfers, flights, park fees, inclusions and exclusions before you decide—not just a headline price.
