Balance paid closer to travel

Fewer than 1,100 mountain gorillas remain, split between the Virunga volcanoes on the Rwanda–Uganda–DRC borders and Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Both countries limit each habituated family to eight visitors a day for a single hour.

That scarcity is why permits sell out and why the visit funds so much: ranger salaries, veterinary teams and a revenue share that reaches the villages at the forest edge.

01

Rwanda or Uganda?

Rwanda is quick and comfortable: two hours from the airport, tarmac all the way, exceptional lodges and the highest permit price in Africa.

Uganda takes longer to reach but costs meaningfully less per permit, offers chimpanzee trekking in Kibale in the same trip, and puts you in denser, wilder forest.

02

How hard is the trek?

Anywhere from ninety minutes to a full day on steep, humid, often muddy trails between 2,200 and 3,000 metres. Rangers match groups to fitness where they can.

Bring broken-in boots, gaiters, gardening gloves for the stinging nettles and a light rain shell. A porter costs little and makes the climb far easier.

03

Best months to trek

June to September and December to February are the drier seasons and the most popular. March to May and October to November are wetter, cheaper and far quieter, with more permit availability at short notice.

04

What to add

Golden monkeys in the bamboo, chimpanzees in Kibale or Nyungwe, Big Five game drives in Akagera or Queen Elizabeth, and a beach or lake finish are the four most common extensions.

Questions about gorilla safaris

Is the itinerary really free?

Yes. You receive a costed, day-by-day itinerary with no payment and no obligation. You only pay once you decide to secure the trip.

What does the quoted price include?

Accommodation, meals as listed, your private guide and vehicle, park and conservancy fees and the transfers or flights shown. Every inclusion and exclusion is listed line by line on your proforma.

How do I secure my safari?

A 50% deposit holds your camps and flights. The balance is due closer to departure, and we send reminders well ahead of the due date.

Can I change the itinerary?

Anything can change before you book: camps, number of nights, the order of parks, adding a beach finish or switching between luxury and ultra-luxury.

Is it a group tour?

No. Every journey is private — your own guide and vehicle, leaving when you are ready and stopping when you want.

Every Perch Africa journey is built from scratch.

Tell us your dates, your travelling party and your budget and we will come back with a costed itinerary, real camp availability and a clear price — no templates.

Planned around you. Priced in the open. Built to end on a high.
